In Baptism, the Holy Spirit moves us to answer Christ's call to holiness. In Baptism, we are asked to walk by Christ's light and trust in his wisdom. We are invited to submit our hearts to Christ with ever-deeper love.
Ascension Parishioners should contact the Parish Office to schedule a Baptism. Individuals/families will need to attend a Baptism Class (for first child only).
The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life. The term “Eucharist” originates from the Greek word eucharistia, meaning thanksgiving.
Ascension Parish offers First Holy Communion at each of our locations. Sacred Heart celebrates this Sacrament on the first Sunday following Easter and St. Malachy is held the second Sunday following Easter. Preparation for the Sacrament typically happens in the Fall prior. Please contact our Director of Religious Ed (D.R.E.) for more information.

Not only does the Sacrament of Penance free us from our sins but it also challenges us to have the same kind of compassion and forgiveness for those who sin against us.
This Sacrament is traditionally offered during 2nd grade and takes place in the Fall. Additionally, it is offered as part of the preparation for First Holy Communion.
Ascension parishioners may receive the Sacrament as needed. It is offered each weekend at both church locations as well as during the seasons of Advent & Lent. You may also call the Ascension Parish Office to schedule a time.
Confirmation deepens our baptismal life that calls us to be missionary witnesses of Jesus Christ in our families, neighborhoods, society, and the world.
The Bishop presides at Confirmation Mass typically held in the Spring during the Lenten season. Please contact the appropriate Director of Religious Ed (D.R.E.) to be registered for the preparation ahead of the Sacrament.
The Sacrament of Marriage is a covenant, which is more than a contract. A covenant always expresses a relationship between persons. The marriage covenant refers to the relationship between the husband and wife, a permanent union of persons capable of knowing and loving each other and God. The celebration of marriage is also a liturgical act, appropriately held in a public liturgy at church. Catholics are urged to celebrate their marriage within the Eucharistic Liturgy.
Ascension parishioners should contact the Parish Office at least six months prior to the wedding date. Couples will meet with the Pastor and participate in marriage preparation.
Ordination to the priesthood is always a call and a gift from God. "Becoming a priest or a man or woman religious is not primarily our own decision... Rather it is the response to a call and to a call of love." - Pope Francis, Address to Seminarians and Novices, July 6, 2013
Individuals may find more information concerning Holy Orders and other religious vocations on the Diocesan website or at the USCCB website. You may also contact, Michelle Steinbach at michelles@scdiocese.org or 712-233-7523.
The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament. A careful judgment about the serious nature of the illness is sufficient.
Ascension Parish offers Anointing of the Sick once a month at daily Mass (see below). Individuals may always call the Parish Office to be anointed for emergency situations.
St. Malachy - Offered at daily Mass on the Thursday before the first Friday of the month
Sacred Heart - Offered at daily Mass on the first Friday of the month
St. John - Offered at daily Mass on the first Friday of the month
