In our last teleconference with the Bishop, staff and priests of the diocese the consensus indicates the continued restrictions/guidelines at least through Lent and Holy Week. Bishop Nickless desires not just the protection of individuals and families who come to church, but the freedom from anxiety for all Catholic-Christians who share in the Eucharist at any of our Masses. I understand such concerns knowing many individuals who are still hesitant because of existing health conditions. Sacred Heart School’s Annual Gala will be held virtually for the 2021 year. Our “Not So Gala, Gala” will be held online as a Facebook Live Event on the evening of Friday, March 5th at 6:30 pm. Fr. Ross Caniglia will be the Emcee for the evening. Throughout the live stream Fr. Ross will be interviewing alumni, teachers, and even some very adorable Sacred Heart School students.

Join us Saturday, February 27th at 10am at the new Sacred Heart parish hall for a wreath making workshop and coffee! We will be creating a minimalist style wreath that easily transitions from the season of Lent to the Easter season. If you are not comfortable meeting in-person at this time we will have take home kits available for pick up as well!

My first few days, stumbling around the three churches and within our offices, I nonetheless encountered gracious individuals who were generous in their patience and directions given. Joyce Rupp, Catholic author and native Iowan, best expresses those moments: “No matter how much light I carry within me, there will always be times of feeling lost, being confused, seeking direction. It is the way of the human heart.”

As many of you know the Diocese of Sioux City is in the midst of a comprehensive long-range plan. This planning process is designed to help us better prepare for the future and is addressing all aspects of our diocesan life; it will impact every parish in all parts of our diocese. To assist with the planning process, Bishop Nickless has begun making necessary personnel changes among our priests.
There is still time to contribute to the Monsignor Lafferty Tuition Foundation (MLTF). MLTF provides tuition assistance to qualifying students within the Sioux City Diocese, including students at Sacred Heart. By making a contribution to the Monsignor Lafferty Tuition Foundation, donors can receive a tax credit certificate worth 65% of their donation.

Each November our parishes take up a food collection to help restock the inventory at our local food pantries. In addition to the month-long collection, we will also have a drive thru food drive on Nov. 20th and 21st.
On November 11, we will be celebrating Veterans Day with a Noon Mass at Sacred Heart. We would like to honor those who have served the country in times of war or peace with a special bulletin board located in the church. Thanks to a generous donor, we have a new piano at Sacred Heart! Join Fr. Ross and Monica Pearson as they try out the new instrument Sunday, October 18 at 1 p.m at Sacred Heart in Boone. Expect everything from duets, to piano solos, even some of Fr. Ross' original liturgical compositions. Admission: Free-will offering.
